His unique academic training and R&D career has led to patents and a strong track record of publications in top-tier venues within the privacy engineering, privacy enhancing technology, machine learning, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and human-computer interaction domains. Dr. Smullen is a Principal Privacy Research Engineer at CableLabs, specializing in usable privacy and security, and using interdisciplinary methods to solve complex socio-technical problems impacting the global cable industry.
