Dr. Larry Alder

Dr. Larry Alder has spent the last several years working with technology companies in the communications and internet area. He is currently Director of Connectivity Ecosystems where he supports Ecosystems Engineering and System Engineering teams within Meta’s Network Infrastructure group. The teams are focused on working with connectivity service providers and the connectivity ecosystem on technical solutions to improve the quality of experience of Meta applications. He currently serves on the board of the Telecom Infrastructure Project. Prior to Meta, he was Chief Operating Officer at OneWeb where he managed the engineering and operations organizations at the company building out their LEO satellite communications network which now has over 500 satellites in service. He also spent 12 years at Google where he was Director of Access Strategy responsible for a number of product, policy, and strategic investment activities promoting Internet access including launching Google Fiber. Early in his career, Alder was at ArrayComm, an early pioneering company in the area of MIMO wireless systems, where he served as vice president of technology development. Alder has served on the board of O3b Networks, a global satellite service provider acquired by SES. He served on NTIA’s Commerce Spectrum Management Advisory Committee from 2011-2018 co-chairing the committee from 2014-2018. He has a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering from Stanford University and Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from UCLA.
