From Technician to EVP of Field Operations
Tom Monaghan began his career as a field technician more than three decades ago. Today, he is Spectrum’s Executive Vice
President, Field Operations, and leads a team of approximately 30,000 employees across 41 states. In his role, Tom oversees the
Company’s nine operating regions, serving its 31.5 million customers, as well as Field Operations’ engineering and construction
teams, supply chain management, and business planning.
Tom also heads several of Spectrum’s strategic projects, including its Rural Construction Initiative, which is driven by more than
$7 billion private investment by Charter and will ultimately connect over 1.7 million mostly rural homes and small businesses to
its fiber-powered network. At the same time, Field Operations is transforming the Company’s network to deliver symmetrical
and multi-gigabit speeds that will enable the high-bandwidth applications of the future.
Since 2022 when he was promoted to EVP to lead Field Operations, Tom and his teams have helped deliver a better customer
experience by improving plant performance, productivity and quality assurance. During that time, Field Operations has
achieved faster completion rates for installations, service and repairs, network maintenance, and plant construction and driven
a more than 20% reduction in trouble calls.
Tom also has evolved the self-progression program for technicians. Candidates can join the Company making a starting wage
of $20 or more an hour, and increase their pay by 50% within a year, with a path for continued progression and advancement.
A growing majority of field and maintenance technicians have leveraged their progression opportunity and are building full and
successful careers with the Company. As employees progress, they develop the skills and expertise to more quickly and reliably
address customer needs driving an improved overall customer experience.
He joined Spectrum in 2014 and has held multiple roles in operations management, including most recently as Senior Vice
President, Field Operations. He also played a pivotal role in the largest cable systems integration in history following the
Company’s 2016 transactions with Time Warner Cable and Bright House Networks.
Tom’s Early Career
Tom began his telecommunications career as a field technician with Verizon, progressing to supervisor and then area operations
manager. Leveraging his experience as a technician and success in managing teams, Tom continued to ascend to more senior
leadership roles. He served as Vice President, Network Services at Teligent, Inc. and Senior Vice President, Operations for
Net2000. He then joined Cablevision Systems Corporation (now Altice USA) in 2001 as Vice President of Field Operations,
overseeing all aspects of field services from plant maintenance to back-office functions.

Tom was inducted into the Cable TV Pioneers in 2023 and was recognized by Irish America Magazine in their 2024 Business
100 issue. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Syndeo Institute at The Cable Center and the Society of Cable
Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE).
He is a graduate of Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing’s (CTAM) Cable Executive Management program
at Harvard Business School. He received a B.S. in business management and economics from Empire State University.
