Fernando Villarruel

The PON Core Group at Ciena is a group of techno-business leaders focused on growing Ciena’s Tibit Technologies product offering, both for our subsystems and as a component vendor to the open market. Fernando is currently focused on putting structure around PON OEMs that address second and third tier markets in North America and Europe, along with leading the Campus PON hardware and software initiative for enterprise local area networks. Fernando was recently the Chief Architect for Ciena’s MSO Practice with responsibility for developing the company’s long-term vision for MSO networking. An industry veteran, Fernando has delivered impactful solutions to the MSO industry for more than 20 years, including fundamental contributions to linear transmission and connectivity of distributed technologies. Fernando received Bachelor of Science degrees in Mathematics and Physics from California State University, and a Master of Science degree in Physical Sciences from the University of Chicago.
