Based in Anchorage, Alaska, Erik Kuhlmann is GCI’s Senior Director of Engineering & Architecture for the Planning & Design organization, where he leads a team of highly skilled engineers focused on long-range technology plans. His work involves creating enterprise engineering standards that provide a roadmap for deploying broadband wireline, wireless, microwave, and satellite technologies. Previously, Erik served as Director of Access, OSP, and Facilities Engineering. Before joining GCI in 2020, Erik’s career was centered on commercial broadcast radio and television. He spent over 15 years at iHeartMedia, culminating in his role as SVP of Engineering. In 2014, he transitioned to television as Director of Engineering & Operations at Denali Media Holdings, a subsidiary of GCI. This role exposed him to GCI’s vast telecommunications technologies deployed in very remote and challenging environments, transforming his career path. Erik holds a BS in Electronics Engineering and has a deep passion for RF, telecommunications, and mechanical engineering. His career afforded opportunities to tackle projects across much of the US and Alaska. In 2000, Erik received Clear Channel’s Large Market Engineer of the Year award, and in 2018 and 2019, he received GCI’s coveted VIP Award.
