DOCSIS® 4.0 Bootcamp

Get a practical, big-picture introduction to DOCSIS 4.0, the CableLabs standard designed to enable multi-gigabit services with up to ~10 Gbps downstream and ~6 Gbps upstream over HFC networks. We’ll break down the two major “paths” in DOCSIS 4.0: Full Duplex DOCSIS (FDX) (enabling more symmetrical performance by allowing upstream and downstream to share spectrum) and Extended Spectrum DOCSIS (ESD) (boosting capacity by expanding usable spectrum, e.g., toward 1.8 GHz downstream and up to 684 MHz upstream). Delivered by Dr. Alexander Adams (Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal, Information & Communications Technology), this session will help participants understand what each approach enables and what it means for real-world upgrade planning.

Fiber Splicing

This hands-on fiber splicing bootcamp provides a practical foundation for technicians new to fiber construction and broadband deployments. The session covers essential field skills including single and ribbon fiber splicing, closure tray routing, connectorization, ribbonization/de-ribbonization, and proper scope-and-cleaning techniques. Participants will reinforce learning through guided demonstrations and extended hands-on lab time, gaining real-world skills applicable to carrier, construction, and broadband provider environments.
